District of Squamish is imploring people from outside of Squamish and the Squamish Lillooet Regional District to stay home to keep themselves and others safe.

Many British Columbians are not following the B.C. Ministry of Health direction to stay home and adopt social distancing, district said.

Parking lots at popular outdoor recreation areas in Squamish were full with visitors on Saturday, district noted.

“The health of our residents in all our communities is at stake – not just Squamish, but the North Shore and the Lower Mainland too,” said Mayor Karen Elliott.

“People are not listening to the experts – they are not keeping two metres apart from one another. This is not a joke, and it’s not an extended holiday. You must stay home as much as possible and be responsible, today. Our health care system depends on it.”

While BC Parks have indicated that facilities at provincial parks are closed, the District of Squamish is asking for more restricted access.

“We’re all passionate about exploring BC, but now is not the time to travel,” continues Elliott. “Do your part now, so we can all get back to our favourite pastimes again later.”

Squamish residents are also urged to follow the same direction.

“Essential trips to get groceries and supplies, and to get to work should be the only trips we’re taking to limit the spread in these crucial weeks. When outside, stay two metres away from one another and wash your hands, a lot,” continues Elliott.

PLEASE! People take the seriously, as it most certainly is, STAY HOME! Stop bringing your outside germs to our small community! Go out get groceries safely (bring sanitizer and hand wipes or wear gloves) and go back home!
It’s not that difficult! I’m sure there is tons of things people can do at home, with all new things like Skype parties, people in their own home talking and drinking with their friends over the computer 😊 You could be healthy but a carrier and you could put someone with a compromised immune system at risk…have you net seen the videos from Italy? 🥺Do you want us to look like that?😳 Be Smart & Stay the f*** home! Please 😍

This is not just visitors. Our own locals are just as guilty. Look at @kayakwendy or @ashhthetrainer on Instagram. Both were on the chief the same day. both posted to social media and delete comments from those telling them to stay home or post aggogant responses of people not telling them what do to. It’s negligent and reckless. Hope the government fines them or forces them to assist on the front lines so they can see what pact their Choi es truly have on their community and around the world.
