The Squamish Spit road will be closed from August 9 to August 24 for Central Estuary Restoration Project.
The road closure is required in order to remove an old culvert mid-way down the road and to replace it with a new and larger fish-friendly opening.
The vegetation alongside the culvert will be removed in order to clear the site. The replacement will take place in early August.
According to a district update, all efforts will be made to minimize the duration of the closure.

Before the road closures, there will only be single-lane access to the Spit.
Once the new culvert has been installed and the road has been back filled, efforts will be made to reopen single-lane traffic for access to the Spit.
The restoration project by Squamish Watershed Society aims to improve the natural integrity of the estuary and its ecological diversity.
The project will reduce obstructions and provide fish access to over 40 kilometers of ideal fish habitat in the upper section of the watershed.
The federal government recently gave $522,000 to the watershed society for the project.
