New guitar shop opens in Downtown Squamish

Staff report
August 10, 2020 10:47am

Chris Bas has been working with the guitar manufacturing industry since the 90s, repairing cracks, refinishing and building guitars from the scratch.

From Pemberton to Whistler and Squamish, Bas had been getting a lot of customers from the area in the Basone Guitars shop in East Vancouver.

Because of the popular demand, Bas had been planning a second location in Squamish for the last two years.

The second location of Basone Guitars opened on 38129 Second Avenue in Squamish, the location of the old Twilight tattoo parlour.

“There was a huge demand for our repair and custom work and speciality retail. We had a lot of people travelling from the area so we decided to bring the service closer to our customers,” Bas says.

The Squamish store specializes mainly in the guitar/bass, ukulele, mandolin and banjo retail, including guitars, amplifiers, fx pedals, cables and straps.

The store will also offer quick repairs at the Squamish location, but people can also drop off and pick up guitars at the Second Avenue location.

The store also specializes in handcrafted electric guitars, guitar and amplifier/pedal repair, and instrument modifications and restoring old guitars.

Store hours are Wednesday to Sunday, from 11:30 am to 5 pm. The store will be closed on Monday and Tuesday.

There are affordable beginner guitars to higher-end solid-tone wood guitars and accessories.

“We like to mix it up and keep a lot of guitar “candy” in store. In fact, we have been called the Willy Wonka of guitar shop,” says Bas.
