Starting today, June 22, backcountry camping reservations for Garibaldi Provincial Park, Joffre Lakes Parks and Mount Assiniboine will be available for the rest of the season.
“This is to accommodate the increased demand and to allow visitors to secure these popular bookings in advance,” BC Parks says.
Starting tomorrow, free day-use passes are required for Diamond Head (Elfin Lakes), Rubble Creek (Garibaldi Lake), and Cheakamus Trailheads. Passes can be reserved through Discover Camping.
Passes are also required for the Stawamus Chief backside trail.
Due to a number of incidences with an aggressive food-conditioned bear, the Cheakamus Lake and Helm Creek Trails, and the Cheakamus Lake, Singing Creek, and Helm Creek campsites will remain closed until June 30.
BC Parks is monitoring the bear’s activity, and may extend the closure if risk to the public still exists.
“Please remember it is everyone’s responsibility to store food and essentials appropriately in the backcountry. Do not be the reason why a bear is destroyed,” BC Parks says.
