BC Hydro issues spill notice for Daisy Lake Dam

staff report
June 24, 2021 4:37pm

BC Hydro is informing the community about a planned spill from the Cheakamus Dam, also called the Daisy Lake Dam.

BC Hydro is required to issue a Spill Notice when discharges are greater than 170 cubic metres per second.

This is a routine operation to manage reservoir levels and not an emergency event for BC Hydro.

Rapid increases in water levels within the next 24 hours are possible, and there is a potential for top of river bank flows.

Residents downstream of Daisy Lake Dam should use caution around rivers and streams, and be aware that levels may increase quickly and without warning.

The District of Squamish is monitoring the situation and taking precautionary measures.

Residents who experience flooding can contact Municipal Hall at 604-892-5217, or the 24-hour emergency line outside of business hours at 604-815-4040.
