One man is dead and another injured in a shooting on Highway 1 in Burnaby. Police believe the shooting is tied to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict.
It is not yet known where the initial shooting happened, but the vehicle with both victims inside pulled over westbound on Highway 1 in Burnaby near the Kensington exit around 2:30 pm after one of the occupants called police.
The surviving victim, who was driving, is believed to have a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Investigators are working to determine where the shooting happened, and how far the vehicle with both victims inside travelled before the driver pulled over.
A vehicle, believed to be connected to the shooting, was found on fire on Eastlawn Drive in Burnaby. The westbound Kensington exit from Highway 1 is expected to remain closed for several hours due to the ongoing investigation. Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase.
Homicide investigators are looking for dash-cam video. Anyone traveling west on Hwy 1 in Burnaby around 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with dash-cam video is being asked to call IHIT.
