The proposal for FortisBC’s workforce lodge also includes a staging area for eight buses and 325 parking stalls for the workers. FortisBC plans to provide daily shuttle service for people living in the lodge, though workers will be allowed to use their own vehicles.
The company will provide more details about the workers lodge to the council next Tuesday. Access to the worker site is proposed from Mamquam Forest Service Road and a new 1.2 km site access road that will lead to the camp. Fortis says it is planning several strategies to reduce personal vehicle usage such as multi-passenger vehicles, shuttles, and buses. FortisBC is also preparing a Traffic Impact Assessment to determine the impacts to the District road infrastructure.
In order to prevent public access to the District water wells and the Atlantic Power Station, FortisBC will remove the existing gate along Powerhouse Springs Road and install three new security gates.
Fortis also plans dust suppression to reduce the impacts of dust on the Valleycliffe neighbourhood. Both the traffic and dust abatement plans are being reviewed by the District staff.
