District of Squamish is planning to build a reservoir that can store four million litres of water. It is planned at Quest University immediately south of the existing Lower University Reservoir. Construction is expected to begin this year and so is completion.
According to the RFP, the scope of work includes installation of two, 2,000 m3 steel reservoir tanks to provide increased water storage capacity in the network. According to the documents, civil work includes yard piping, site drainage, and a 3-4 meter high lock block retaining wall approximately 85 m in length. Electrical work includes lighting and instrumentation, as well as an optional standby generator.
The District has also put aside a budget to complete the inspections for Plateau and Thunderbird Reservoir in 2024 and 2025. According to David Roulston, the manager of municipal infrastructure, the reservoirs may need to be drained to be inspected which poses challenges and risk associated with fire protection if there were a large fire while the reservoirs were empty. A detailed process to maintain fire protection has not yet been established for the Thunderbird Reservoir.
