Squamish Search and Rescue continues looking for a woman swept into the Mamquam River yesterday afternoon. The call to SAR came around 4:15 pm after the woman’s friends called 911 to report the missing woman.
BJ Chute, Squamish SAR manager, said crews started searching for her with the help of Squamish RCMP and other emergency responders. However, the search was suspended yesterday night and was reconvened today. “Search is underway with two helicopters and kayaks and other group members and search is still underway,” he said.
Chute said the woman went swimming about seven kilometres up the Mamquam Forest Service Road. It’s not clear if the woman was from Squamish.

Due to an ongoing search operation in the area, the lower 10km portion of the Mamquam River will be temporarily closed until further notice. “We kindly ask for your cooperation and understanding as rescue crews require space to work effectively.”
