The District of Squamish has launched a program to assist businesses and non-profit organizations in the transition to a circular economy.
In a circular economy, waste and pollution are minimized, while products and materials are utilized for more extended periods, prioritizing regenerative resources. Participants in this district program will receive various forms of support, including interactive group sessions, personalized assessments, implementation strategies, and one-on-one coaching.
Additionally, the program offers up to $2,500 microgrants to assist organizations in implementing circular initiatives. Further details will be provided during the program. The program is approximately 30 hours from May to December. Most workshops will be held at the Squamish Public Library, lasting two to three hours each.
The district emphasizes that this initiative enables businesses and organizations to attract customers who share their values and sustainability efforts. It also fosters cost savings through efficient material usage and waste management, enhances supply chain reliability and predictability, and explores innovative revenue opportunities.
Interested individuals can submit an online form until midnight on Friday, May 31. Selection for the program will be based on sector representation, commitment, and ability to implement circular initiatives.
The completion of the application form automatically gives participants a chance to win a $100 gift card to a local business of their choice or free registration to the upcoming SHIFT program—a cohort-based initiative for innovators developing marketing strategies to promote circular and sustainable products and services.
