A heavy rainfall warning is in effect for the Sea-to-Sky corridor, including Squamish, Whistler, and Highway 99, as a strong fall storm returns to the region today. The warning covers Howe Sound and an additional 30 to 40 mm of rain in the forecast.
A flood watch is in effect for Squamish and Sea to Sky.
Hazards associated with the storm include water pooling on roads, increasing the risk of hydroplaning, localized flooding in low-lying areas, and swollen rivers and creeks, which could lead to washouts and rockslides. The storm, which eased overnight, is set to intensify again this morning and continue throughout the day.
Motorists are advised to clear storm drains of leaves and debris and to exercise caution while driving. If visibility is poor, drivers should turn on their headlights and maintain a safe distance. Residents should also watch for washouts near rivers, creeks, and ditches. The public can visit the BC River Forecast Centre’s website for updates on flood warnings and advisories.
