A Special Weather Statement is in effect for Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore, Howe Sound, Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the Sunshine Coast.
High winds are expected to develop overnight and continue into early Saturday morning.
Residents are advised to prepare for southeast winds reaching up to 60 km/h, with gusts up to 80 km/h near the Strait of Georgia. The winds may cause tree branches to break and could result in power outages. A Pacific frontal system will move onto the South Coast this evening, bringing the strong winds after midnight. Conditions are expected to ease by early Saturday morning.
Environment Canada urges the public to stay updated on weather alerts and forecasts. Reports of severe weather can be sent to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or shared on social media using #BCStorm.
