Woodfibre LNG‘s Community Partnership Program is the company’s cornerstone community investment initiative, providing funding in the spring and fall of each year to local non-profits from the District of Squamish, Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, Squamish Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
Applications for the Fall intake closed on October 11 and are currently under review. In the past two years, the program has provided nearly $600,000 in funding for over 125 different community initiatives, including to non-profits offering community services, sports and recreation, health and wellness, arts and culture, employment and training and search and rescue.
Funding has helped groups like the Squamish Hospital Foundation and Squamish General Hospital Auxiliary Society provide important community healthcare support. Woodfibre LNG funding supported the Hospital Auxiliary in purchasing new fetal heart rate monitors for Squamish General Hospital, providing much improved pre-natal care and a valuable tool to use during labour and delivery. Pediatric SIM dolls were purchased with funding provided to the Hospital Foundation, offering improved training to simulate pediatric patients for healthcare workers.
Contributions from Woodfibre LNG also helped improve emergency response and preparedness in the Sea to Sky region. New rope rescue equipment increased Pemberton Fire Rescue’s capacity for response in various terrain and scenarios, creating safer outcomes for responders and the community. Similarly, funding for Squamish Search and Rescue has improved that organization’s ability to aid backcountry enthusiasts in distress through improved medical equipment and upgrades to their emergency vehicles.
The company has also been pleased to support community groups like the Squamish Quilters Guild and Squamish Legion, whose activities form the fabric of the community – whether providing hand-stitched quilts or a welcoming gathering place for veterans at the Diamond Head Legion Branch.
Woodfibre LNG values the opportunity to invest in non-profits’ work and see the profound positive impact these organizations provide in the community. The company extends a sincere thank you to all past and current applicants and recipients of the Community Partnership Program and looks forward to many more years of supporting the important work you do in this community.
Squamish 4-H Community Club says
This is incorrect information. Our Squamish 4-H club received an approval for a grant in June and still have not received the funds, or had any response back from anyone at LNG. It’s all a scam and lies. Shameful. We would love to do a follow up article on this issue.
