Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Howe Sound and the North Shore region of Metro Vancouver, including West Vancouver. The warning, in effect from Sunday evening through midday Monday, forecasts heavy rain and associated hazards.
An intense Pacific frontal system is expected to move through the B.C. coast, bringing 40 to 70 mm of rainfall. The heaviest downpours are anticipated overnight and into Monday morning, with conditions easing by the afternoon. The potential impacts include an increased risk of washouts, rockfalls, and landslides. Motorists should be prepared for localized water pooling on roads, which could make travel difficult. Flash floods and localized flooding in low-lying areas are also possible.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution if visibility is reduced, use headlights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Caution is urged near rivers, creeks, and culverts, where washouts could occur. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall poses a risk to public safety. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take appropriate precautions.
