The College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC has imposed interim restrictions on Surrey massage therapist Arthur DeLuis as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct.
DeLuis must ensure that female patients remain fully clothed from the waist to ankles during treatment. He must also prominently display notices outlining these restrictions on all online booking pages, in the waiting rooms, and in the treatment rooms of any clinic where he practices. The notices must specify that the committee mandates the limitations and provide a link to the College’s website for further information.
Additionally, DeLuis must submit his weekly calendar, including patient names and contact details, to the College by 6 p.m. every Friday while the restrictions remain. The College has also reserved the right to conduct random on-site audits of his practice, which may include inspections of patient bookings and treatment records.
The restrictions stem from a complaint filed by a female patient who alleged sexual misconduct during treatment. After reviewing the complaint, the Inquiry Committee found a prima facie case supporting the allegations and suggested the alleged behaviour could recur.
The panel wanted to implement these measures to protect the public during the investigation.
