Environment Canada has announced a snowfall warning for the Sea to Sky region. As much as 20 cm of snow can be expected from Squamish to Whistler by late Friday night.
A low-pressure system moving into Howe Sound on Friday will bring light flurries in the morning, which are expected to intensify by midday and continue through the evening. Snowfall is expected to taper off around midnight, with total accumulation reaching up to 20 cm.
In Squamish, temperatures are expected to rise today and there is a chance of rain throughout the day. Some regions, such as the North Shore, could see significant rainfall. However, Friday night and through the weekend, temperatures will fall as cold arctic air begins to invade the region and mix with the Pacific moisture.
Amounts are uncertain, but snow accumulation is likely in many areas this weekend. Very cold and dry air is expected over the South Coast region by early next week.
Drivers are urged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions, as mountain weather can shift suddenly, creating hazardous travel along the Sea to Sky Highway. Officials recommend checking road conditions at drivebc.ca before traveling.
