A provincial advisory is urging drivers in the Howe Sound and Lower Mainland to avoid travel unless their vehicle is properly equipped for winter weather,
Colder winter weather will linger in the region for the week. The advisory notes that all drivers must be cautious avoid travelling in poor weather conditions when possible, and prepare for delays. Drivers are also asked to leave space for snow-clearing vehicles and move over safely when they see an approaching amber light and are reminded that passing a snowplow on the right is unsafe.
Sunday morning’s traffic tie-up on Highway 1 through North Vancouver resulted from drivers attempting to travel without winter tires or chains. The Ministry of Transportation’s contractor made 30 passes throughout the morning to remove snow, but their efforts were hindered by spun-out vehicles.
